The dance and the steps Among the most famous tarantellas (Campania, Puglia, Calabria), it must be said that, without a doubt, the Tarantella Sorrentina, considered the most beautiful love dance, is... something else entirely! The first dance steps are slow: he looks into her eyes, trying to discern her consent. The dance begins between two young lovers; their greeting, the first steps, animated by joy and love, are soon followed by capriciousness, discontent and contempt. The woman resorts to all her subtle arts of coquetry, always discreet and sober. It is all a clash of looks, desires and modesty. The man always tries to impress the lady with the skill of his steps: little leaps, turns, heels and toes, which the woman also performs. She soon 'betrays' the man, preferring another dancer, but when the lady confesses her betrayal and misdeed to the man, she tries to restrain him by humiliating herself to the point of bending one knee to the ground. The man then turns triumphantly around and forgives her, lovingly lifting her up. Subsequently, however, the opposite happens. This time it is the man who shows infidelity and frivolity; the woman shows him her contempt, and when he in turn bends one knee before the lady, she immediately forgives him. Happy then, they both show through the lively and passionate dance that their love is fulfilled.Even today, several tarantella dancers are united in marriage. The performance usually includes dance intervals during which the most beautiful pieces of traditional Neapolitan music are performed. Tarantella dancers also participate in these moments by singing or playing the characteristic instruments of Neapolitan music. At present, it is possible to attend specific shows organised in hotels, clubs and establishments that recreate the background of the performances with images and landscapes.
